Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist who lived during the early 20th century. She is well-known for her self-portraits where her characteristic unibrow is always present. Kahlo was born in 1907 in Mexico City and began painting as a form of therapy after a serious accident that caused damage to her spine and uterus. Kahlo was a strong woman who dared to stand up for herself and go her own way, which is the inspiration for our design collection Ekelund x Frida Kahlo. The collection consists of four mini-collections - Belleza, Vida, Fuerza, and Flores which in English mean beauty, life, strength, and flowers.
Honoring Frida Kahlo
This year marks 70 years since Frida Kahlo passed away, and this memorable anniversary is being recognized worldwide. Frida's profound influence extends far beyond the art world and into the heart of cultural and feminist history. To honor Frida and her contributions to art, we highlight our cherished design collection featuring Frida Kahlo especially throughout 2024.
