FROM THE BEGINNING
Ekelunds Linneväveri, founded in 1692, has a rich history shaped by global events and technological advancements. The company traces its roots to a time when textiles were handmade on Swedish farms. Ekelund’s story begins with Ingemar Larsson, an entrepreneur in Swedish textile history. When trade was restricted by regulations, Ingemar innovatively provided local farmers with raw materials to produce textiles, laying the foundation for modern manufacturing methods.

FROM FATHER TO DAUGHTER
Ingemar Larsson, born in 1660, was a central figure in Sweden’s textile industry. His daughter, Marta Ingemarsdotter, born in 1692, carried his legacy forward by establishing a successful weaving business, becoming Ekelund’s first “CEO.” Together, their efforts played a pivotal role in the development of Ekelunds Linneväveri.

A SURVIVOR
Ekelund evolved alongside major world events, adapting to revolutions, industrialization, and wars. In the 19th century, the company transitioned from hand weaving to mechanized production, introducing advanced techniques such as “dräll weaving” and later Jacquard weaving. In 1878, Ekelund made its first delivery to the Swedish royal court, cementing its commitment to quality and tradition.

IT ALL STARTED 1878
Since 1878, Ekelunds Linneväveri has been honored to serve as a Royal Purveyor – a recognition of its exceptional quality and genuine craftsmanship. Over the years, Ekelund has continued to supply the Swedish royal family with textiles, reflecting its reliability and timeless design. Being awarded the title of Royal Purveyor symbolizes Ekelund’s roots in tradition, our professionalism, and our strong commitment to both quality and sustainability.

A NEW CHAPTER IN HORRED
In 1910, Ekelund relocated its operations to Horred. Here, in the heart of the Swedish countryside, Ekelund has continued to produce and innovate textiles. This decision has preserved Swedish craftsmanship, drawing on centuries of knowledge and creativity to uphold a proud heritage.
