Ann is a trained product designer from the School of Design and Crafts (formerly Konstindustriskolan) and has also studied art history and botany.

She usually draws by hand, using pencils and brushes as her primary tools, along with colors in the form of watercolor and gouache. Ann’s greatest source of inspiration is nature, with its endless richness, which she finds in forests, meadows, heaths, and along shorelines. Sometimes her creations result in naturalistic patterns, while other times they take on more abstract or geometric expressions.

For Ann, the challenge in pattern design lies in finding a rhythm and balance where each element interacts to create a harmonious whole.

For Ekelund, Ann has designed several patterns that have resulted in towels, tablecloths, and throws with a variety of motifs.
